As a teacher/ Parent what do you do with a cheeky child?

I teach music one on one and I have this one student who is VERY cheeky! She talks back and always has a comeback for everything! As a result we hardly get anything done cause she is 'arguing' with me! I never get mad at her (most times her comebacks are pretty funny), How can I lovingly let her know that 'its not on' in my lesson. What are some things I can try?

Tell her that although she is very entertaining, but it is wasting valuable time. Start ignoring her comments, or have her to put her head down like a 1st grader! Start with taking her aside and explaining your situation, and tell her what you will have to do!

You've probably just got to be straight with her and tell her that her parents aren't paying all this cash so she can spend the time talking.

I can't really see what else you can do with her apart from maybe find some footage of a musician who's absolutely brilliant playing whatever instrument you teach her and you can watch it and afterwards say 'Wasn't he/she brilliant? Well you'll never be unless you stop talking and start learning'

That might get the message across.
stop laughing. i know it's hard, but when she does it next, raise your eyebrows, and turn back to whatever you were doing. she'll probably do it more for a little bit, but after a while she'll stop. just try it, and don't be impressed by her- she's probably doing this for attention.
