Is getting a new puppy/kitten a smart way to see if you'll be a good parent in the future?

I want some aminals before i ever start having rugrats (and by the looks of it, i won't have a kid for at least 5 years tops)Is getting a new puppy/kitten a smart way to see if you'll be a good parent in the future?
Yes, it can be good at some points but then wont it be awkward if you have to actually do what you have to do for a real child? ut it in a stroller? sit it at the table? well what do you think? I think it's perfectly fine. But if you still keep the puppy when you get the baby won't the puppy feel a bit left out after you start caring for your real baby?Is getting a new puppy/kitten a smart way to see if you'll be a good parent in the future?
Get a puppy for practice. Cats are too independent. And not to mention they suck
yeah get some animals. KITTENS DON'T SUCK
