How long can a parent keep their child in foster care without surrendering their rights as a parent?

It depends on the state policy - for instance, in WA state the parental right termination process is supposed to start 15 months after the child entered foster care. How long can a parent keep their child in foster care without surrendering their rights as a parent?
Hi I'm sorry that you are having defficulties. Honestly its not worth putting a kid in foster care a lot of wrong can come out of it. There's abuse that goes on sexual physical mentally nutritional as well. The family your child goes to may do harm and some kids are placed from house to house and its not a perfect family ending like some may think. Can you live with the fact god forbid your child is miss treated or abused I know I couldn't . Imagine you being taken from your only family you know you put into strange homes and abused. My friends kids were placed temporary and her youngest is having it worst of all. They were all separated . The foster mother refuses to let her phone her mom and if she does it is monerterd and the case worker is a ghetto low paid lady who doesn't care its Been a year and she is having a hard time taking her out. Btw case workers are all over worked and can not keep up with checking in on the kids. How long can a parent keep their child in foster care without surrendering their rights as a parent?
it all depends on what the mother has done to get the child taken from her and what state your in.

This is a question you can ask the social worker that is handling the case.

good luck
