How do you get a ';helicopter'; parent to leave you alone with school?

Here is a suggestion...

Print one of the two articles listed. http://www.collegeboard.com/parents/plan鈥?/a>

http://blogs.usatoday.com/oped/2008/06/p鈥?/a>

Then hand it to one of your parents and ask them to read it. Tell them that you would like to have a conversation about their reaction to the articles. Sit down and discuss.

If you do this the following will happen...

1. Your parent will realize that they are possibly a helicopter parent and need to change.

2. You will approach the situation in a non-confronting fashion.

3. You leave the situation open to discussion.

Since I don't know you or your parents, I can't make assumptions. If you parent is this way because of a mistake you made in the past, then you need to reestablish trust and responsibility. Make an agreement with your parents and you to show them that you can take on responsibility, then do it or else face the consequences.
