Till what ages should a parent worrie about sids?

My wife just had our first child and we are wondering till what age is sids a concern?Till what ages should a parent worrie about sids?
If your me ... I worry forever!!! But in reality they say 2-6 mnths is the most common ages for an infant to die from SIDS. When your child can roll over by themselves, and you aren't there to flip them onto their backs, they are usually safe.

.... and all of that is statistics, not really carved in stone, it can strike any infant at any time ... which is why you should follow every guideline!Till what ages should a parent worrie about sids?
At least one year, although I think they call it SIDS if it occurs before 18 months. My great-Aunt died of SIDS at 1 year. Realize that SIDS and suffocation are two different things. SIDS is believed to be primarily caused by certain birth defects, and probably not avoidable, while suffocation can be prevented. Some infants die of sleep apnea, which can be listed as SIDS, but is something that often affects preemies and can be prevented much of the time with alarm systems.
SIDS is more likely in 1st 6 months when baby cannot protect airway by rolling over well %26amp; cannot dislodge itself from certain types of bedding, pillows or cushions, but considered a possibility until age 1 by the American Academy of Pediatrics.

Pediatric RN
I was told up to a year old.
I've always heard until they are about 12 months of age.
SIDs normally occurs before a child has the strength to lift their head on their own. One way to avoid it is to not have any stuffed animals in the crib or blankets that can cover their face. I use to check on my daughter every hour when she was first born but once they get strength normally the risk declines, good luck and God Bless you and your new little one.
SIDS is a serious danger until about 18 months of age.
