What happens when a parent hits a child?

i was just wondering if a father hits a son for no reason, what are the consequences? What happens when a parent hits a child?
Most of the time, there is a reason. Kids just don't like responsibility. So it's up to the parents to show it to them. What happens when a parent hits a child?
My beliefs are that physical punishment is wrong and doesn't do much of anything to teach the child right from wrong. I work with kids and I know the ones who are hit at home as punishment- it's generally those kids who are the least respectful, most likely to be violent themselves, have behavioural problems, not listen, argue, be fearful of adults, be fearful of making mistakes or being wrong, are less mature than others and a list of other things I've noticed. If the abuse is reported, then child services will make a housecall to evaluate the situation and interview the child and parents and other children in the house. If the child has noticeable bruising or lacerations or seems to be in immediate danger of abuse they will be removed and placed in temporary foster care and depending on the severity of injuries the parent may be arrested.
nothing its not illegal, especially if the kid had it comming, if they just beat them for no reason and leave marks then yes its abuse but other than that just hitting them they dont care
the consequences are that child growing up remembering that they got hit for no reason and hating their parents for it.
he earns respect
